ASZ18 Great Central Ac Unit

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where heat indexes reach the upper 90s from June through early September.

I purchased an Amana ASZ18 central air conditioner a month ago after getting several proposals for changing out my 11 year old (~10 SEER) heat pump.

I decided on the Amana based on its competitive price, 10 year parts/labor warranty, and lifetime outdoor unit warranty. The system included a 1600cfm variable speed blower and the Comfortnet thermostat.

The central air conditioning unit is very efficient and quiet. The two stage compressor has long run cycles in the low mode. The home stays evenly cooled (even on hot and muggy days).

I'd highly recommend anyone considering a new or replacement central air conditioning units to look seriously at Amana products.

Purchased new in 6/1999 model RCB36B2A. We didn't have any problems until this year (2012) when it required a new compressor wire that had blown out. The service technician also changed two capacitors because they were leaking. Two weeks later and the outdoor units fan does not start-up, so we are looking to fix or replace. I haven't had a technician come over to even inspect the unit until now.

Living in upstate NY, the unit is only used 4 to 5 months a year, but it does have to survive the cold winter. Judging by the comments from other manufactures units, mine lasted twice as long as them. I guess I will probably stick with Amana when we replace.

I have lived in Florida all my life. I bought my home 22 yrs. ago. The previous owner had bought and installed an Amana Super High Efficiency 5 ton unit about a year before having to sell the home.

This central ac unit is about 24 years old and has to be one of the best systems on the market!! I have the ac unit serviced yearly, just before summer. The only part I have had to replace is the outside fan. Other than that, everything else is fine. I'm considering buying a new unit this year and will more than likely get the system!!
