York LX Compressor Failure

by Consumers
(Jax, Fl)

New central air conditioner system installed 7/1/10 by a factory authorized dealer and on 7/8/10 the compressor failed.

Dealer said the unit was shipped without a capacitor and was a known problem. I would not recommend York, their website is of no help.

In Florida central ac unit in July is not a luxury it is a necessity, yet they only handle calls until 5pm.

They have no standards for dealers because they don't answer the phone after hours either. I am still waiting to see if York will just replace the compressor or replace the unit.

Replies:

Sounds like the dealer that installed your LX unit last July is responsible, not York. 99% of all issues with equipment are due to improper installation , not bad equipment.

Case in point, if the condenser was shipped without a capacitor...guess what? The compressor would never have started in the first place. Just an excuse or a blame shift.

The contractor in this case did something wrong on the installation and now is shifting blame to the unseen (in this case York). This industry needs more qualified and honest contractors servicing the public.

I would hammer the dealer and ask for a York representative to come out with the dealer. Maybe that will clarify some things!!

Good Luck

Dont blame the contractor NEW
by: Anonymous

I would not blame the contractor here ,I am a York dealer and have seen several units wired for 3 phase ,That were post to be single phase .Now the big change was York closed its plants in Mexico ,that is why these units were shipped to contractors manufactored wrong.

Need a new system
by: Cheste

It seems strange that a system would need replacing after only 8 years of use, especially since you have have had regular service. I would get a second opinion from another contractor.

Check any company you are doing business with at the Better Business Bureau and the State Licensing Authority (or Canada's equivalent)

Not certain if there is a problem or not.
by: Rick

Basically nothing. Unit has two servicing a year for the past 8 years. A "transponder" was replaced in June when we had no cool air. After the second servicing this year, we were told that we need a "new furnace, outdoor unit, and control pad". I am a sr. citizen, alone, and need some advice of what to do.

The Model/Serial No.: H4D1(I) - 030S06A
Lot Run: S008040

On outside motor (inside the shell): 024-27551-000

reset button
by: Anonymous

Look for a reset button near where the lines come out of the unit. No panels or anything needed to be removed. My previous unit had one and would trip once in a while.

Central Ac Compressor Re-set
by: Joanne

We have 2 central air conditioners. The one that is for the bedroom side of the house does not seem to be cooling any longer. It is 7 yrs old central ac system. My husband did cycle between cool & heat functions & upon then reading the info that came with it.

It said that you needed to wait 5 minutes between reseting the cool/heat & if you did not wait that you would need to reset the compressor. Of course he did not know this at the time. Is this something we can reset ourself?

York Compressor Going Bad
by: Anonymous

Our York ac unit worked good for 2 yrs and then we had to put a new compressor in it. 2 yrs later we put another in it and now it needs another.

Of course our warranty is out they said they could put one in for 1500 hundred bucks but who can afford that. so i would not advise anyone to buy one.

Outside Unit Fails and Insider Start
by: Ernest

The outside unit (compressor) from time to time will try to start but will fail. The Inside Air Handler starts and after 5 minutes(exactly) the outside unit (compressor) will start.

I've had a hard start kit installed but this didn't seem to make a difference. Other times the outside unit (compressor)starts first and then the Air Handler starts, this seems to be the normal sequence.

really
by: Anonymous

it is probably due to improper installation there is no other reason why you would have multiple failures. The manufacturer will not cover this due to the contractor incorrectly installed it and they did nothing to resolve the problem

York Hvac, Repeated System Failures
by: Gary

Purchased and installed July 06 as a replacement unit.

Since installation this 5 ton central ac unit has gone through three fan motors (currently dead, again), two capacitors, and two or three occasions where the problem was with blown fuses.

Electrical wiring has been checked, this year as a preventative measure I had surge protection installed during an annual servicing.

Model: D2NY060N06506NXA (zero's could be O's??)
SN: N0E7828373

VERY Disappointing. Looking at possibly replacing this hvac unit with another brand.

York Warranty
by: Dadan

Hey, Bash

I'm guessing Carrier has more confident in their equipment and installer. I'm not sure though.

I need to call Carrier and York and ask them for their reason on warranty. Hopefully I remember to post it here.

Guarantee On Part & Labor
by: Bash S.

I am about to replace my carrier roof top air conditioner unit. Carrier is willing to offer a 5 year guarantee on parts and labor whereas, my potential installer of York unit model # D1EZ036A, R410A is willing to offer only one year warranty except in the case of compressor.

It is protected for years as provided under York’s warranty plan. Why York is not willing to match or better Carrier warranty??

Regards,

Bash S.
