Two Trane Hvac Died Within Two Months Apart

by Nabil Z
(Holly Springs,NC)

I custom built my home in 2005 and I specifically requested from the builder to have Trane central air units put in.Two months ago one central air units failed as a result of bad evaporator coil, cost to replace it was $1800.00,New complete unit,3 tons XR 15 Costed me $3600.00.

Today the second central air conditioner in the house failed for the very same problem. The ac unit is 2 tons, the contractor claimed that the prices went up between March of 2011 and may 2011 and Airexeperts of Garner,NC charged me $3900.

I asked Airexperts if Trane can absorb some of the cost or negotiate the price as a result of the 2 bad lemons of Trane, the answer from Airexpert that trane is unwilling to offer any thing toward the purchase of two new
central air conditioning unit

I believe Trane does not care about the quality of their products as long as they make huge profits.

I know that the warranty on the two central air conditioning units was 5 years, but it is no coincidence that the two units experience the same problem and the Air conditioner contractor was unable to see if Trane can prorate any of the cost or even offer a discount on the new ac units that we bought from Airexperts of Garner,North carolina.

To my astonishment and disbelief the first central ac unit that was replaced in March 2011 was 3 tons XR15 at $3600.00,now the other unit is only 2 tons of XR15 and Airexperts took over $3900.00,saying that trane raised the prices since March of 2011.It is amazing in this bad economy and unfair practice

Trane Hvac Units mfg 9/92 and 12/92
by: John

I have two Trane Hvac units XL1200 TWX030C100AO mfg 9/92 and XL1200 TWX036C100AO mfg 12/92. I bought the house in 2001 and only once had a problem, had a leak fixed around 2004 - replaced a brass tube part for $260.00.

The first repairman that came out told me I needed a whole new Central air conditioner that "Tranes only last ten years". I knew he was trying to scam me so I paid him $65.00 for trying to rip me off and $260.00 for the real repair.

Reading these reviews it seems all the positive ones are for older Tranes. The newer Central air conditioning unit seem to have problems. They were installing Tranes in a new development near me and I heard from two out of three people who moved in about problems with their Trane ac units right before expiration of warranty or soon after. Now they install Amana Hvac units.

Seems like with so many products these days - quality is on the decline. I just wonder if Trane makes a high end and a budget brand?

Can you please explain why you have two units that only total 5 tons? That seems like an unusual combination even if for zoning purposes. Perhaps your units were undersized, which might explain the premature failure.
