This is how you have to do it

(gothlam city)

I had an estimate for 2300 for just the outside unit so i said i'll think about it mean while i went online to get my epa certification.

It only cost 25 dollars for tech 1 and that is good for less than 5 pds freon units so i bought my unit from ebay 1000 and the pump, recovery tank gauges the hole 9 yards total i have in it is 1400 installed in 1 day.

they wanted 800 for just labor this is a rip off market in the hvac world. Any fool can pass that test and do the work themselves you have to because the idiots in this field think they have one over on you and charge you thousands for a days labor.. ill never call an hvac dude again no thanks charge someone else a thousand for sitting in a chair waiting for a vacuum pump to do its thing..

We both agree. See my post under "Good for Batman! NEW
by: Bill"

You mentioned a rather obvious fact about new installs requiring refrigerant recovery, but there is some real reason for HVAC techs to say that, because they charge for the recovery service whether it is necessary or not. For example, an accident occurred to a unit rupturing the condenser coil and rendering the unit empty for quite some time (several months) but still the HVAC tech charged for the recovery service!

To the first negative commenter (amazed)...
Per your comment of
"People like you make me think of the hicks my husband saw at the four wheeler trip to Texas where then men had a 50k truck and a $15,000 wheeler and where proud of the $1200 trail they bought to live in. " and "The smart person hires this work out to someone that actually knows what they are doing. Then use that person for all heating, air ect...." To the last part ... Your "I have a feeling one day someone will find you in your home with carb poisoning do to something you did yourself and did wrong because you did not have all the facts or training it takes to do the job."
#1.. I have to assume you mean trailer instead of Trail. And if you can find a $1200 "trail"... That is the amazing part!
#2... Typical person that is not intelligent enough to learn something as simple as HVAC.
#3... I also believe you meant to say Carbon monoxide instead of carb (which was used on car engines before fuel injection came alone). If you Google "how long does it take to learn HVAC" you will find most schools are 2 to 4 weeks long... If you are not capable of learning this on your own... That explains your "Trail" and "carb"

to the second (not even giving a synonym for anonymous)...
Per your comment of
"I bet when he was asked about the superheat, His mouth fell open & he hasn't got it closed yet."
#1 there is no reason for any installer to know about superheat (or sub-cooling for that matter).
#2. If there were a need for an installer to know how the internal workings of the AC condenser... The info is available on youtube for good grief's sake...

Im kind of getting bored with seeing the same uneducated people write here... But this was my favorite...

Another coward "Anonymous" commenter...
Per your statement of "So....how Big is your trailer anyway? Typical dumbass attitude about a/c work.....obviously You are a Walmart shopper with that "
#1. The first thing I see is that you must be a bigoted snob that has never done any real work in your life... What??? You in the IRS, a government job or a union member?..
I digress...
#2 ..Per Your statement of "I would have busted your ass for not recovering your Freon and no permit". You did not read again (or did not comprehend what you read) He took his Tech 1 test and passed.. (that is an install tech). So I am sure he paid the 25$ for an install permit.
#3... He installed a unit... If you had read the article. (I believe you have to have some ability to read... Or you would not have typed your comment in).. YOU DO NOT RECOVER FREON WHEN YOU INSTALL A UNIT... Good grief... Morons amaze even me.

If you do not know how to work on your own home.. Its fine.. Pay others to make a living off of your lack of education... But Please do not make stupid comments like "If I lived near you, I would have busted your ass for not recovering your Freon" when an install job is being done... It only goes to show your lack of intelligence and education.

My hats off to Batman.
These HVAC techs are just trying to protect their trade or industry. When they say "It’s complicated, you just wouldn’t understand” They may not understand it themselves and or their snubbing their nose up at you. You are a not an HVAC card-carrying club member. This is similar to trade union tactics. Industry lobbyists have money and are a big influence. Look out, you might need an electrician to flip the breaker so you can change that light bulb; you could get hurt. Electric is dangerous stuff!
Let us try to show off using “High tech terms” Supercool! Oooh! Superheat! Wow! The audience is so amazed. Just don’t look at the man behind the curtain. Obtaining an HVAC certificate does not make one a good tech; no more than not having one means one cannot perform satisfactory work on HVAC components. Example: An HVAC contractor installed the furnace exhaust right next to the intake for the household fresh air exchanger. Not every layperson (non-HVAC tech) quit school after the 3rd grade. High school standard chemistry and physics class provides students an understanding of the basic properties of refrigeration theory. Even general science classes may even cover the basics.
As for the lack of guarantee on HVAC components purchased without the 100% to 200% markup. If Batman’s unit completely fails after seven or eight years and he installs another same unit, he may still come out ahead with a savings. When talking about any one brand, it does not mean the components are substandard just because there is no guarantee. The guarantee is like insurance. If you want to be protected you must pay the HVAC tech. I think that sounds a lot like the Mafia to me.

I had a Hvac company to come and install mine....3 times here so far and it still isn't right...I would love to call someone else but it is to late ,so there are a lot of friggin Hvac workers that should not be in the business...There are lots of people out there that know how to do the job and are not in the business that do better work...I applaud the Hvac men that do
a hell of a job ,surly not mine.

The smart person hires this work out to someone that actually knows what they are doing. Then use that person for all heating, air ect.... My husband is a major do it yourselfer but the safety of his family comes first not saving a buck.

I have a feeling one day someone will find you in your home with carb poisoning do to something you did yourself and did wrong because you did not have all the facts or training it takes to do the job.

So....how big is your trailer anyway? Typical dumbass attitude about a/c work.....obviously you are a Walmart shopper with that "how cheap can it get" mentality. No doubt with you training, you will get your monies worth. If I lived near you, I would have busted your ass for not recovering your freon and no permit. By the way, that's a federal offense and a $10,000 fine. Are you still laughing now?

This is not the way to do it
by: Anonymous

Wait till it breaks or compressor dies , then he will find out that he has NO WARRANTY lol,,, Can't tell you how many folks we get calls on there unit "not cooling" only 6 months old and should be in warranty, till you run the model and serial number and then they fess up and said they bought it on the Internet , and had a "buddy " put it in lol, so you saved 800 bucks , ha ha so you should have no problem paying 1200 bucks for your new compressor that also has NO WARRANTY !!!! Don't do this people!! You will only cost you more in the long run !!

Amazing!
by: Anonymous

I never cease to be amazed by people who will make decisions only based on how cheap they are and not the facts.

The fact is there are idiots in every field if you just look for them, but the hvac industry is full of highly qualified, hard working individuals who unfortunately as a part of their jobs get to deal with folks just like Mr. "This is how you have to do it".

His comments are spoken truly like someone who has never had to make a payroll, recruit and train people, deal with the public, deal with the local and federal regulations, etc. By the way this is not the way you have to do it.

This is the way to do a really poor installation, put the hvac co. who will have to eventually straighten this out in an awkward position due to the fact that equipment bought online normally has no warranty from the manufacturers,etc.etc,etc.

No need to go on. If this how "you" do it, I'm O.K. with that, but please don't attempt to drag others down that path. As a 30 year hvac professional, I resent the fact that you can go online and get an EPA certification just because you have $25.

This may allow you to buy refrigerant and refrigerant bearing equipment, but it doesn't qualify you to carry my tool pouch.
