The compressor runs but the fan does not

Problem: When the unit is turned on, it works fine for

approximately 10 minutes,at which time the fan stops, yet the compressor continues to run. I employed the services of a local ac/heating entity who informed me that my problem would be solved with the installation of a new variable speed motor.

Cost for motor $750.00 labor not included. The new motor was installed and it performed in the same matter as the old one.
When the unit is turned on, it runs for about 10 minutes then the fan shuts off, the compressor continues to run.

I had the variable speed motor replaced and it still does the same thing. The techs don't seem to have a clue.

Any suggestion to help solve this problem?

My AC unit works fine for about 15 min then the fan shuts down. After setting for a few minutes it comes back on but repeats itself. Replaced the fan motor and run capacitor, neither helped. Checked wiring and all seems fine, any suggestions?

I have a Trane central furnace and AC that is an older American Standard with their name ion it . The Central AC condenser cooling fac was working fine but bad lout bearing type noise. I had a new fan motor installed and after 10 minutes it quit and that later causes the Compressor to quit. I had the tech install a new one again and the same thing. My tech is experienced and smart and checks things electrically He never had that and said he has to call in someone but my man is very good. Why is the same happening to others/

My outdoor unit started doing this today. Compressor and fan kick on just fine to start but after about 10 minutes the fan makes a weird noise and stops running. The fan still has power going to it however and if the unit doesn't shut down soon on it's own the fan begins to overheat and smoke. Luckily I was outside the first time it happened and saw it smoking so I ran in and shut the system down. I tried turning it back on after a few minutes, hoping everything would kick on properly and cool the motor down, and everything worked fine for about another 10 minutes before the fan stopped working again. I'm leaning towards capacitor or contact issues myself. I've had other motors act similarly when they had bad start capacitors, failure to turn and just humming while overheating, but that wouldn't explain why the fan stops to begin with or why it does kick on just fine on original startup.

We moved to this house a year ago. When I turn on Air the fan runs great for about 10 minutes then it stops. The fan almost seems frozen. I try to move it with a screw driver to make it spin and it will hardly budge. Then I tried spraying WD40 at the base of where each fan rotates. I again forced the fan to rotate and it started to loosen up. Then finally it takes off and everything runs great. Sometimes it will work for 10 minutes last night it worked for about 4 hours. Then the fan seems to freeze and I have to start all over again. Is there something simple I can do with this CENTURY by Heat Controller, INC. Model 10 SEER? I really do not have the money to replace right now.

my York had the same problem. turned out to be the run capacitor. $200 for the service call, capacitor and labor.

Just trying to figure ot out and come up with a solution myself...any help will be greatly appriciated.

It was a defective motor. I bought a new one, installed it and it is working OK now. The motor was about $90 but that was a lot better than what the AC company wanted to charge for installing it.

If it is not the run capacitor, it could be your outdoor motor is malfunction.

If you?re familiar with electricity, you need to find a way to troubleshooting the condenser motor.

I would suggest you get a local tech to look at it if you're not familiar with electricity. I do hope your compressor run.

When I turn on the AC, it runs for 3 minutes then the outside fan stops. After shutting it off and trying again later, the same cycle occurs. I have replace both the run capacitor and the fan capacitor. (It's an old Lennox.) Any suggestions? I mean besides buying a new unit. Thank you.

These two wires control the OD fan. They my be shorting out. This will cause the OD fan to kick on and off. To check these wires you need to check for volts should be 24v.

check for shorted wires(touching metal ,wire rubbed through insulation etc.)also have someone check resistance and capacitance check of fan capacitor,
