Smells like chlorine or nail polish when AC or heat is turned on

It's a Carrier central ac unit in the attic. It also smells early in the morning from the inlet duct if the AC or heat were not turned overnight. We have this unit for about 7 years and it happens every year.

Nail Polish Toxicity Attack in Hotel Room NEW
by: Anonymous

Hmm...we are here in Marbella, Spain and experienced a strong, toxic nail polish odour/smell coming from our heating ducts. Reported it to service staff but they are remaining 'dumbfounded' about it. We even followed up with Front Desk later in the day and they seemed very puzzled as to what the problem was or, hardly acknowledging that it should be a problem for us! The odour smelled extremely toxic and did eventually dissipate to where there was only a slight trace of odour 4 hours later. Any clues on what the issue was that precipitated this toxicity? We thought maybe a service person may have been doing some paint removal in the building and was near a return air vent that may have sucked in the pungent nail polish odour/fumes.
Hotel did offer to move us to another unit should the problem continue!
