Shame on Lennox HVAC

by Douglas M
(Milford, CT)

On August 17th, 2011 we purchased a brand new Lennox 14 SEER 2.5 Tons Merit Series Central Air Conditioner , M/N14ACX-030-230-11 , S/N 1911D28625 from Tri-City Heating and A/C located at 362 New Haven Ave. Milford, CT.

It was installed the following week on Aug 23, 2011. Less than three weeks later the centra ac system blew a line and would not hold Freon. On Saturday Sept. 3 we called Tri-City and told them the ac unit was not working. The technician told us the problem and he would call it in to have it replaced because it was supposed to be a new central air unit.

Since then we have been told twice by Tri-City that Lennox will not replace the central ac unit but will send us a part & have it installed when it comes in. Here we are almost 3 weeks later and no part and no Air Conditioning.

I have a 70 year old mother with breathing problems and a wife who is recovering from Stage 3 cancer surgery & chemotherapy.

Shame on Lennox for not replacing the unit and just as much blame can be said to Tri-City for not replacing the unit either. They have no problem taking your money but sure take their time when you need it fixed or replaced.

Lennox installed in our new home
by: Brent

Would avoid if possible in future. Aluminum grate surrounding outside unit has severe corrosion. Parts of it flaking away. Three different companies have serviced unit and none had good things to say about the unit and company.

Would not buy Lennox Central Ac
by: -bhu

We have this lennox it is new central air unit installed and every year it had problem the dealer put the freon and goes.. went by 2 years like that, he then said some unit is leaking and he ordered it from the company another year past by..

the next year same issue, now i ask the dealer since we are facing the issue he says that the unit which he put is also defective and now to replace it he needs the labor charge of $400. when i called the company they said that you need to deal with the dealer.

They are unable to support there own product. We need to sell these company a huge list of computers with warranty of one year and if it breaks we need to tell them that we will send the spares but need to pay for the labor to fixit... what a rip off company..

Same thing except worse
by: Anonymous

WE just experienced the same thing, except we paid 354.00 for 2 service calls to tape up installation before we were told it was the expansion valve.

$929.00 labor to tape up some insulation and replace an expansion valve in a 2 year old unit!!!Lennox Sucks!!

After Market Lennox Ac Parts
by: Mitch

Built a new house had a 13 hpx heat pump and a G40 gas furnace installed after 2 1/2 years expansion valve went bad.

$700 dollars to fix valve. Talked to installer and apparently the EXP valve is an after market part with a 1 yr warranty.

To have to spend $700 dollars after 2 1/2 yrs is not right. Will never install another Lennox product again.

wrong size unit
by: Anonymous

I seriously doubt you have a 28,000sqft house. If it were 2,800 sqft a 4ton AC unit would be woefully inefficient! There are 2 charts used to calculate the requirement of an AC unit in a home.

The old chart suggests 500 sqft/ton and the newer chart that deems the newer units to be more efficient that suggests 600 sqft/ton. If you fall in the middle it is better to be 50% under than 50% over as the unit will not perform as well on having too much tonnage.

If you ARE IN 28,000 sqft you are not even making a dent! For 2,800 sqft a 5 ton unit would be the correct size.

Lennox Central Ac Short Life Span
by: Anonymous

I live in Texas, and my home is about 28,000 sq ft running on one Lennox 4 ton central air conditioner unit and approximately four years old. I think i have at least 2 summers in which 1 the fan locked up, and now the third summer compressor went out

YORK is good
by: Anonymous

I live in Florida also and went with a york. seemed to be middle of the road price wise, possibly even cheaper than most. I have a small 3 ton unit for a 2000sf home. always does the trick and we keep the house 72 during the day and 70 at night.

Horrible Horrible Horrible Central Air Conditioner
by: Clare W

I had a Lennox 3 ton 16 seer central air conditioner system installed in my house in Sept 2009. June 2010 it does not work. A/c company that installed ordered replacement part from Lennox under the warranty. It's been almost 2 weeks and the part has not arrived.

I live in South Florida so most days it's a cool 94 degrees.

Don't waste you $$$$$$ on their junk.

Three Year Old Lennox Leak
by: Kathleen S

On a very hot day the thermostat was rising and we called for service and he had to put coolant in to the tune of 173.oo Dollars!

After purchasing one of the most expensive air conditioners I didn't think I should be needing cooling in three years? Right now I am very unhappy with Lennox.

Lennox is worst unit EVER
by: Stephanie

We got the top of the line 5 ton central heating and ac unit for our house with 3 zones. DO NOT BUY LENNOX. We have had the dealer/installer out 22 times in one year.

Our propane costs have soared and now in 102 degree heat a major part on the AC is out. It will take 2 days to get it fixed. Our 20 year old 'old' HVAC unit was twice the hvac unit this is. STAY AWAY FROM LENNOX!
