Outside unit has not turn on yet with the use of heat

Hi, I am a homeowner and my central unit ran during the summer months, now that it has gotten cold i switched to heat and the outside unit has not kicked on yet.

The heat is working in the house but should the outside condenser unit kick in and start working? does it take a few days to unfreeze the lines to switch from AC to heat?

Heating portion not working but cooling does
by: Anonymous

when cooling is activated, the unit comes on, but when I put it in the heat mode, the thermostat clicks, and the monitor says, "heat on," but nothing happens. When I put it on "fan" the unit comes on. Everything seems to work except the heat. Could it be wiring or does it sound like the thermostat needs replacing???

Outside unit not on in heat
by: Chester

What type of system do you have? If the unit is a Heat Pump the outdoor unit should be coming on in heat mode. If it is not a heat pump it would not be coming on in heat mode.

Need to know the Brand and Model Number to determine what kind of system you have.
If it is a heat pump and the outside unit is not coming on in heat mode it is likely a wiring problem.

The lines never freeze up as refrigerant will always be in a liquid or vapor form. If you are seeing ice on the lines this could indicate another problem not associated with the outside unit not operating in the heat mode.
