Mobile Central Ac In Alabama

by Patsy
(Mobile, Alabama)

The cost of the central ac unit and install it was $7300. With no duct work included. The duct work was there. It is a Rheem 16 seer heating and central air conditioner unit. Online I found the same central ac unit with same serial number for $4000 including the touch tone thermostat 4100.

Rheem is offering a $1000 rebate. My concern is one my area to cool is only 930 sq ft on one side of my house. We have two units.

Research is telling me I need a two ton and having a three will cause humidity not to escape as well.

The total cost is $7300.00 therefor looks like install will costs $3200 with no ductwork to do?????? Does this seem pretty steep or is it the going rate.

Central ac unit is not in yet scheduled for tomorrow unless I change my mind and research some more.

Carrier 3 ton "package" pump with digital thermostat
by: Eric

I got a 14.5 seer 3 ton installed for $4990. The best part is that I will get $1497 back for an energy efficiency model.

I financed through our power company, good rates easy terms.

Carrier 5 ton ac and 80,000 btu gas furance
by: Richard T

I had 5 ton Lennox ac unit and gas heating system. The outside unit went out about 20 years ago. I replaced it with 5 ton carrier unit for about 3,500 dollars. Never was satisfied with system. Too noisy.

I had to replace the inside system with a 5 ton coil and a 80,000 btu gas heat furnace from carrier for 6,300 dollars. Now i have to replace to re place the outside unit with a carrier 5 ton 16 seer rating for 5,300 dollars.

I feel that is too much. I stay in a rural area in south central Alabama.

Price
by: Mr Green

I would say for your area that is a fair price. You can always find a cheaper price online but don't forget the contractor that does the install will stand behind his work and the equipment for warranty period.

Your new system will require a new line set copper tubing ( not cheap) electrical update and new refrigerant with the disposal of the old equipment.

I would say more times than not the higher priced techs do better work for the love of the trade not a fast buck they know value of the skill.
