Ice on low pressure liquid line.

by C.W.
(Gulf Hammock, FL)

As soon as the central ac unit turns on it starts to build up frost that turns into ice later on the small low pressure liquid lines that spider out of the fixed metering device going into the evaporator.

When I saw this I immediately turned off the unit because I didn't want to ruin the compressor if liquid Freon was getting to it.

The evaporator coil itself isn't icing over just the little liquid lines. There are no air flow restrictions on the return air ( air filter, ducts) and the evaporator coil is virtually spotless. This is a package unit.
