I would Hop off this Trane If I could afford it!

by Dario P
(Portland CT -6480)

I have a New Trane central air units that is 4 years old and only used in the very hottest of weather . The 2nd year the Whole chiller unit needed to be replaced, ( down 2 weeks ) ,the 3rd year the DC motor quite and had to be replaced ( down for the rest of the season ).

The chiller unit (I was told ) had problems that were known to exist after it left the factory but instead of recalling them and replacing them they waited until they went bad , I think they were hoping they would last past the warrenty period , than the homeowner foots the bill.

I'm a retired Engineer from Pratt & Whitny Aircraft , would you fly knowing we did that with our engines, wait until it stops , what if it's in the air ?? Well my central air conditioner quit in the middle of the hottest season and I was not a happy camper!! I don't know how much the chiller cost $$$$$$$ but the DC motor alone was over $1,000 not counting labor.

BOY am I glad that I purchased the extended warranty. I wrote a nice letter to Trane asking if my warranty could be extended for the amount of down time that I had and they didn't even bother to get back to me . It will be the last $12,000 the see of mine.

Wish I Were Cool!
by: Janelle F

In 2007 replaced a 5 plus year old central air conditioner (installed during new construction) with a Trane. We thought it wise to purchase the extended service plan from the company responsible for the installation.

Well, we have the central air units serviced annually and do everything asked of us to ensure things run smoothly but apparently no one explained that to the central air conditioning unit.

Last year we attempted to turn on the central air conditioning units and nothing happens. Trane unit had to be fixed. This year same thing happened again, which is why I am up sweating and typing this at 12:00 AM when I have to get up in 2.5 hours for work!!! Can't afford to keep replacing unit every 5-6 years, this really sucks!
