HVAC Made in the USA!

by WHulme
(Dallas, Tx, USA)

Is there a manufacture of residential air conditioning and heat equipment that is 100% built in the United States and that uses United States components? By this I mean no American made parts but assembled in other countries.

I remember one manufacture in Longview, Texas that prided itself on this claim and it was a quality product (Eubanks Mfg.)now most companies go outside the United States for parts or to be built. Like some input on this!

Issues with carrier furnace NEW
by: Anonymous

Carrier furnace installed at my parents home in 2010 by a commercial HVAC contractor. Numerous service calls over the years. One in particular was to replaced the draft inducer assembly which seemed to have no issues. Not sure why they showed up to replace. Maybe it was under a recall. Now three years later the bearings inside the motor starts screaming. During the latest service call the tech advised this is very common. Found out that you cannot buy just the motor as it is an OEM Fasco part only. Cost to replace the draft inducer unit is in excess of $900 even with an annual service plan. It’s absurd that a motor would only last three years. My Trane which is 34 years old still has the original draft inducer assembly and is running strong. What will be different about this new draft inducer unit versus the one that needs replacement now? Is this some sort of maintenance that’s going to have to take place every three years? It’s just ridiculous, something is wrong. Either they are speced out wrong (cheapest available) or the bearings are just inferior. Either way just extremely frustrated with all this junk we have to deal with because of outsourcing and greed.

I am a qualified installer and service man. Have been for 25 years. Any one who tells you your unit is made in USA is a LIAR... All units are made else where mostly Mexico and some are assembled in usa after all part are shipped to usa plant. If it's a emerson copland compressor it's made in Mexico. By the way 17000 for a Lennox unless it was a 17 ton unit is a RIP off.

I had a unit when I moved into my home 12 years ago that was already 20 years old . That means it lasted for 32 years and had to be replaced two years ago. The new unit worked well for about a year then started having problems. Just yesterday it went out completely and I slept in a house that was 86°. When I talked with my AC guy and ask him about this his answer was "unfortunately everything is made in China today. ". So basically what they’re telling me is we sold you junk from China !!

I came to this site because i am on the market for preferably an american made unit... i really don't want junk thats made in china.

As for who puts them together (brown or whatever you say) quality control falls on the manufacturer no matter who puts the stuff together. If you put a stupid brown guy or stupid white guy or stupid any color as you say to do something, well there's probobly gonna be a problem no matter what.

If they are here legally to work i'm all for it... illegally i am against. This coming from an american of mexican descent and an ultra conservative further right than a republican... if we follow the constitution to a T and apply those principles across the board no matter what the color of the american citizen then i think we could kiss racism goodbye and get past it.

Skil-aire AC/Heat Pump Equipment - Made in the USA NEW
by: Shaun

Skil-aire is a small commercial hvac company based out of Baltimore, MD and all of our products are made in Baltimore. Some components do have some outside of the US material but we can and do easily provide an entirely US made product. The issue is no-one wants to pay the higher cost of having a product be made completely in the US unless it's a Buy America project where the government requires it. High taxes and strict regulations make it tough to stay in business and stay competitive with the large manufacturers who have factories overseas and get away with paying little to no taxes.

I bought "Dave Lennox Signature" (made in USA) NEW
by: Anonymous

I did it, as told here a year ago. I bought a Lennox XP25 heat pump / SL 280 furnace. The "Dave Lennox Signature Series is assembled here (Iowa, I recall) and even the compressor unit is "made in USA." Costed my about $18K installed, but there are $1500 of rebates that bring cost down to $16,500. Lennox offers cheaper, non "Dave Lennox Signature" but those are not made here, so I would not even consider them. Dictatorship in China, Oligarchy in Mexico, will NOT be solved by free trade. I sincerely care about these issues for those that live there (not that the US is a moral country by any means).. but I am opposed to our unfair "free trade." Do you all know that all countries we have a huge trade imbalance with (Germany, China, Mexico) have VAT tax's (they have VAT sales tax on imports and domestic). This VAT (19% in Germany) allows much lower corporate tax on domestic produces. Bottom line, if we had same 19% VAT as Germany, this would drastically solve our trade imbalance. With VAT, all imports would be charged 19% VAT at border (and domestic goods charged same VAT). If we had 19% VAT, however, we could lower our US corp tax rate to 14%; and which makes "made in USA" much more competitive. WTO does not consider VAT a tariff, since both imports and domestic items BOTH have to pay it. But with high VAT, a country does not need to charge high corporate taxes. Bottom line: VAT acts like tariff, and our competitors have one; so should we. -Jim Bauman. Charlotte, NC

What has Trump to Do with any information request NEW
by: Living in NY City

I have come here looking for help and what I find are plenty of comments concerning Donald Trump.

So, is he in the business of manufacturing central AC units? If so, then according to some of you he's doing a lousy job.

But your comments are not helping me.

Now if you want I believe it is that every F'n one of you Democrats are the sons or daughters of Satan himself!

As far as economics, these issues concerning trade policies are complex and will defy easy and simple solutions. Changes in tax policies/regulations (OSHA/EPA/Worker's Comp/etc.)will help to bring jobs back, or they may make it easier for large corporations to make more money.

If you really want change then get up off of your overstuffed butts and start writing letters to politicians. Go on line to Senate.gov or House.gov and you will find the information you need - if you have the courage to do it (I doubt it). Hey, screw 47% of you.

Goodman is just like every other brand and only as good as the installer and as good as it is maintained. Everybody in the HVAC business knows that! In the early years Goodman had to sell to plumbing Wholesalers as the large HVAC Wholesalers were already entrenched with Carrier, Lennox, Trane etc. the plumbing Wholesalers in turn had to sell to Dealers who weren't already married to the major brands. That usually meant Plumbers and moonlighters, many of which weren't trained to install them. Thus the bad rep. I have a Goodman that is 30 years old, still runs fine and has never required repairing. Difference is it was installed and maintained properly. Daikin bought Goodman in 2012 and the systems have evolved to become some of the best systems made anywhere! Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Nordyne.....all of our "American" manufacturers have steady migrated to Mexico for over 10 years to increase profits (though they say to cut cost of manufacturing). Dailin has invested $1.6 billion in their U.S. Operations in the past 4 years. They must know something about our economy and our workers that our "American" manufacturers don't!! Their new 500 acre facility in Houston is the 2nd largest manufacturing plane in the world (Boeing has one bigger). Daikin is the #1 manufacturer of heating and cooling products in the world and will introduce HVAC systems from this new facility that will be technologically more advanced and superior to anything its competitors are capable of dreaming up. Plus their warranties and aftermarket supprt is already superior. Daikin strives to design and make all of their components so the can say their priducts are "Daikin, Inside & Out"! That's a problem with our trade policies. We want clean air, sustainable manufacturing processes here inside the US; so we have rules/regs. It is stupid to allow the importing of products manufactured via processes that pollute beyond our standards. This should not be allowed; and should be a part of our trade policy. I wouldn't just want to tariff a "dirtier" import; I'd want to ban it unless same standards met. We don't want to make it easier to make light bulbs here again, if that means allowing more Mercury into the atmosphere; those Chinese bulbs should be banned. Meanwhile; a boycott is equally effective, huh. We need to use the internet more effectively as politicians have; we don't need expensive "mass media" to get the message out. I'd like to seriously hurt even US corporations that outsource by educating US consumers that that (slightly cheaper price) comes with baggage. Moral baggage that make the import "junk." I aim to do this "soon."

Well, there is usually at least one "hold out" that will make theirs here for us that will pay more for it. I don't expect workers in the US to work for $6/hr, so what's the solution? Tariffs? I'm fine with those; it's called "protectionism" for a reason. I'll about guarantee that one major company still makes residential HVAC here. I plan to buy a 25 SEER unit by this time next year. By then I will have researched and will report back what brand I buy; and how much $$$$. I don't care it that brand costs $2K more than imported. As a truck driver; my job is protected by default. All you jokers that say "I ain't buying nothin' that ain't American!" Well guess what?! Throw out your phones, toss your TV and you are walking to work tomorrow regardless of the Make!!! LOL!!!

I am looking for a furnace that is made 100% in the United States, every component every nut and bolt. I will pay top dollar for that. I don't want anybody putting it together in any other country, furthermore I want a union man or woman putting it together. Otherwise, I'm not buying a freaking furnace.

Daikin is pulling 2,000 jobs from my town to go to Houston! NEW
by: Anonymous

Daikin may be building a new plant in Houston, but - and this generated zero national news or campaign comment - they are closing plants in Tennessee, including the major employer in my town of Fayetteville, to do it. That's 2,000 jobs gone locally here in 2017, and the town will dry up. It's just not that simple an issue. Big corporations, they don't care about their workers anymore. Workers, the vast majority of whom are not organized labor, are expendable. They care about cheap. Inside the USA, that means the non-union, lesser skilled, lower paid Southern workers compete for Northern factories to move here. Huntsville, Ala., just lured Remington from Connecticut and Polaris from the Midwest - all inside the US, but still painful for the town that were left behind. It is harder to solve than a simple campaign slogan.

HVAC traitors NEW
by: Tim

Daikin, an Asian company, is the inly major HVAC manufacturer who is actually INVESTING in the U.S. !! They are presently building a $417 million state of the art facility in Houston. Seems they understand re-investing into the wxonomy from which you get your profits. That's why they are number 1 in sales globally and in the U.S. As well. The U.S. HVAC market is the largest in the world. But our American manufacturers are traitors and rapists.

TRUMP Brings Companies BACK to the USA NEW

All this talk about Trump paying no taxes and shipping jobs to China is BUNK with NO SOURCES to back it up.

FORD just announced they are bringing their manufacturing BACK to the USA because of what Donald Trump said. Trump said that he will TAX companies who produce in Mexico to sell back to the USA. There goes the profit advantage of moving jobs to Mexico!

Obsession With Taxes NEW
by: Anonymous

Taxes are like the draft, not popular but necessary. People like Trump run when there is a draft. Taxes will go up for those in the top brackets, or else we bankrupt. Even the elder Bush raised taxes. Trump pays no tax, the average worker pays Trumps salary. Get over it. If there is a war we draft. If infrastructure need fixing taxes go up. Once things get rebuilt, taxes go down. Bernie...Bush...whoever. The point is the big guys want you to pay their bills. Trump gets more US gov handouts then anyone in history, that is a fact. So do the rest of us watch the guy parade around with his Jet and Ruskie wife...and stick the little people with all the bills. Trump is a wasteful spender period.
Roosevelt got folks back to work. So are we rooting for the dude with the coolest toys, or voting for someone who can get something done. If taxes is your issue...go Trump all the way brother.
If getting folks back to work is your issue...Sanders is the only person who is even addressing this.
Trump = China outsourcing.

Anonymous, what kind of moron are you, supporting Bernie Sanders? Sanders won't protect American jobs. He'll just raise taxes. And then he'll raise taxes some more. He'll raise taxes on individuals, he'll raise taxes on businesses, he'll raise taxes so much that the cost of doing business in the USA will rise EVEN MORE, and as a result there will be MORE offshoring of jobs.

Only Donald Trump has a plan to reignite American manufacturing.

Trump bankrupted 4 times and took a Ruskie wife. People need to take a firm stand. My next furnace will be made in USA. Components that came from other countries is not my first choice, be at least preserve some of the jobs. Trump outsourced the Jobs in ALL of his buildings. He will line his pockets by building a wall, while the average family starves. Meanwhile the roads here are falling apart. Trump wants to sell the Jersey Turnpike.
Why not put our folks to work fixing roads, bridges, water pipes, airports, and schools.
The Repos sold us out. Is Sanders the right guy? Well...says he wants to put people back to work, sounds like a start. Trump...Cruz...these guy take loans they never repay. Do you like Sanders...maybe maybe not? Hey Sanders at least says he will bail out Americans, so far I like what I see. There is only one issue here...JOBS.

by: Anonymous

Donald Trump doesn't care about you and he doesn't care about outsourcing. He is just pandering to working class Americans with rhetoric. He outsourced his former clothing line at Macy's and every other product he sold. If he carried, he would have made his own products in America. He just wants your vote and won't do a thing about outsourcing. Bernie Sanders on the other hand has fought against outsourcing and other anti-Middle Class policies for decades. He is the candidate that can reinvigorate the Middle Class.

Industry insider NEW

You will be hard pressed to find an A/C unit built in the US using 100% content. This is true of every major brand in the market. Most manufactures design the product in the US and either assemble in Mexico or US using parts from various countries ( Mostly China and Mexico ).

Despite this fact, the quality standards are quite high and although the parts may be produced in other parts of the world, they must comply with design standards set by the manufacture.

Overall, the PPM levels for the HVAC industry have been trending down, following the automotive industry quality systems. The companies that produce the A/C units ( Trane, Carrier, York, etc.) are very involved with their supplier base and the quality parts they purchase. Purchasing parts outside the US is simply a matter of economics, driven mostly by the reduced labor cost in countries such as China and Mexico.

Carrier Junk NEW
by: Anonymous

Bought a whole new Carrier system (A/C and furnace) two years ago. Ran fine up until last week then it broke down TWICE within a few days. First the blower motor on the inside unit went bad and then a capacitor on the outside unit went bad. The motor was from China, I saw it on the box. The capacitor from Mexico. I thought Carrier was supposed to be a good brand ? My last Carrier unit lasted 22 years, but I guess it was made in USA ? I have lost all faith.

My Lennox is less than 5 years old and has needed repair about every 6 months. It went crazy when we had unusually cold weather, and the heater broke 7 or 8 times in the past month! The repairman was here so much the neighbors probably thought I had an affair going on. It's working now, but the next break-down I'm keep the copper out of it to recycle and sending the rest where it belongs - in the junk! Thanks for the info on American made units. I'll come back here to find a different brand the next time this piece of trash breaks.

Sounds like your certain on with your statement on Coleman. I do know in the 80's when Sheldon Coleman still owned the Coleman Co. it was 100% made in the USA.

They were built in Wichita, KS and were excellent machines much like everything that Coleman manufactured.

The last time I checked the Coleman product was owned by Johnson Controls and being built in Oklahoma.

I'll research this and hope my findings are that it is 100% Made In The USA. Appreciate your input!

Unfortunately, we dont have much left in America.... why is our country in the shape it is in now.... NOT MADE IN USA.
I try my best not to buy anything but,,, ,what can a person do when everything we pick us says made in China, or some other 4th world country...
We are slowly becoming the 3rd world, and we will be there sooner if we dont start demanding Made in America.
If the rich guys want to stay rich, they need tobring the jobs back, if not, they wont be selling anything to the "homeless" which is about where the country is at...
I need a quality 4 ton AC for a house I am working on.... can I find one I can depend on. A goodman, and a Rudd, has been nothing but money for us in the past 11 years..

Thanks for your feedback. Having 35 years in the HVAC business it's amazing how manufactuer reps. and suppliers talk around this subject. I recently had a customer purchase (2) RUUD/RHEEM split systems that were shipped from the same supplier. One unit had on the data plate of the condenser assembled in USA, the other had assembled in Mexico.
I was informed that all RUUD/RHEEM residential equipment was from Mexico now and commerical equipment was from USA unless you make a special request on a large order. Wish someone still made and assembled 100% American Made Products. Cheaper labor and quality is destroying us!

Made in the USA
by: Chester

There are probably no units built that contain all USA made and/or assembled parts. Most units are assembled in this country or Canada, but parts are assembled from many countries. Printed circuit boards (and most systems have them) generally come from Asia. Small parts (relays etc) are quite often assembled in Mexico from USA components. No manufacture makes all of the parts in the systems they build. Individual components come from various manufacturers, and are built in any number of countries.

This is true for almost every manufactured item you can purchase. Assembled in the USA does not mean all the components were made in the USA.
