High Efficiency Heat Pump / AC unit

by Stephanie M
(Leesburg, Florida)

O.k. I think i tried accessing this site back in the winter when our heat pump wasn't working properly. Now, it's summer and we are experiencing some issues once again.

Last week, our ac unit (Bryant) fan stopped spinning. I "manually" got the fan to spin and the air went back to working again.

Several times during the day now, the fan will start making a loud humming noise, the fan stops and we just turn it off, let it cool and start it up again, sometimes "manually" spinning the fan to start.

We have also noted a gurgling sound coming from the drainage pipe at the bottom. What is the problem? We were told by a Technician that it could just be a capacitor. Does this sound right?

Fan Problem
by: Sachin Save

It must be the Starting OR Running Capacitor. Regarding the gurgling sound coming from the drainage pipe, it could be that the "U" trap is not provided so the air is getting trapped.

Hey, Stephanie

"I "manually" got the fan to spin and the air went back to working again. "

Basis on the information you provide about the condenser fan, I would said it is the capacitor.

"got the fan to spin and the air went back to working again. "

I'm guessing this is not a dual capacitor.

"noted a gurgling sound coming from the drainage pipe at the bottom."

you meant near the air handler?
