Condensor Fan Motor...

by Kevin
(St. Louis)

I replaced the condenser fan motor in my central ac unit. It seems as though it is rotating the opposite of old fan motor.

I'm not sure, but should it be rotating where the flow is blowing down into the unit or should it be pulling the air out of the unit? The motor is reversible, how can I reverse the flow if need be?

I replaced the condensor fan motor and need to reverse the direction of rotation. It is a 1/4 horse Dayton motor?

improper insall on fan motor
by: Anonymous

It sounds like the motor was wired for the wrong direction of rotation at installation. The way to correct this is to look at the motor for the wire diagram and make the proper connections. This is not very hard at all, however if you don't have a clue where to find the dis-connect then have a service tech repair it.

There is one other way to fix it and that would be to remove the fan and flip it over. since the motor is reversible it wont hurt anything.

The air on the condenser should blow out of the top of the unit when its repaired. Hope this helps you.

I'm not sure what you are asking. You smell burning wire somewhere indoor or outdoor????

Condenser fan cycles on and off
by: Sam

I own a Legacy Bryant. It has been in the 90s lately and the outdoor conditioning unit has been rejecting heat and cooling the house fine.

During the hot day the outdoor unit shuts down like it should when the indoor temp is satisfied.
The problem is the condenser fan starts and stops immediately then starts after about 5 to15 seconds and immediately stops, over and over.......

When the indoor stat calls for cooling again the condensing unit starts and works properly.
Then when it satisfies the cooling it shuts down and starts and stops again like mentioned above. I fear the fan motor and/or the compressor will fail or some other component.

Interesting that this a.m. the condenser fan stop cycling on and off but I have seen it cycling on and off in hot weather during the day for several days now.

Is it a bad stat or what should I be looking for?

Thanks...

Thank you. I was wondering why it wouldn't cool properly. After I reversed the direction it's cooling fine. Thanks again.

Condenser Fan Motor
by: Dadan

It should be pulling air out of the condenser unit and reject the hot air outward (up). On the condenser motor there should be a diagram tells you the color of the wires.

It should has wire for capacitor and the other wires for common and reverse the rotation of the motor.
