Central air blows hot to reach desired temp. then blows cold instead of turning off.

I set my central ac system to heat up to a certain temperature but instead of it turning off once it reaches the desired temperature it starts blowing out cold air. I've changed the batteries on my thermostat but the problem still persist. What could the problem be???

Indoor blower not shutting off
by: Chester

I would say the switch for the indoor blower has malfunctioned or I have had cases in the past where the fan switch on the thermostat was turned to “ON” instead of “Auto”. In either event the indoor blower would continue to run after the heat source had turned off. You are simply recalculating room air at whatever the temperature of the air is. Even 75 degree air blowing directly on 98 degree skin will feel like a cold draft.

Check the switch on the thermostat, if this is not the problem call a trained HVAC technician to diagnose and repair the problem. There are no consumer repairable components in the air handler or outside unit.
