Carrier Central Ac Unit Reliability and Warranty

by Charlie
(Dayton. OH)

Three year old central air conditioner unit which has had yearly checkups stopped working during hottest spell of the summer. Original installer serviced the central ac unit and coil was leaking new part installed two days later.

He said this is a common problem. Warranty only covered parts so it cost us $650.00 to have it fixed. Very unsatisfied with the central air conditioner unit and will not buy another Carrier.

Carrier stinks NEW
by: GM in West Palm

We bought a Carrier central air conditioner about seven years ago and it worked fine for about 4 years. After that every summer I have had to have it repaired at least twice. Last summer we had it repaired 4 times and it still doesn’t work. In the coming weeks I will buy a new central A/C and it will not be a carrier. Never again.

Package unit
by: Anonymous

About 5 years ago we remodeled and I told the contractor I wanted the most reliable unit available. They sold me a Carrier Weathermaster.
It fails regularly. About once every 2 months you have to cycle the power and it will begin to work again. It has had problems with relays and capacitors. Normally it doesn't cost a lot to fix but it is great fun to go out on a cold winter's night to cycle the power.

I am 60 years old and this is the most unreliabile product of any kind I have ever owned.

I?m not sure if this is a common problem with air handler FV4BNF0020 model. It could just be a coincident.

There is no potential problem, except the two brand need to match. Your contractor will know. Even though, HVAC unit have different brand, some of it part are the same.

Defective Air Handler
by: Anonymous

I purchased a new compressor and air handler FV4BNF0020 in May 2004. In August 2010, one year out of warranty, I had to replace the speed endbell for $625.

Four days later I had to replace the motor and the module for $740 and obtained a one year warranty. Now a year later I have a leak in the coils. I am waiting for a quote to replace.

I am trying to decide if it is worth replacing or should if I should buy a new handler. I am concerned I have a lemon and next year I will be replacing the circuit board.

Two questions: (1) Are these common problems with this model? (2) Are there any potential problems with replacing the air handler with a different brand? I have had it with Carrier.
