Programmable Thermostat by: Dadan
"fan keeps running. Is that the way it is supposed to work" Did you have the indoor fan on AUTO or ON position? If you have on ON position, it will run non-stop. When you have indoor fan on AUTO, it will come ON whenever; the central ac units come ON. The indoor fan may run a few second after the outdoor unit turn OFF.
If you were to turn Off the central ac in the morning and turn back ON in the evening. This will result in the central air unit working harder to remove the heat and humidity. It may takes hrs or hrs and half for the central to remove the heat. This also results in a lot stress for the central ac units. This is just my opinion.
What you need is a programmable HVACs thermostat. This thermostat allows you to set specific degree for specific hours of the day. Researchers have shows that it saves energy to have programmable thermostat. To make both parties happy, this is what you need.
Hope I Help

fan by: Joe
I set ac at desired temperature 78degres. It gets to 78 degrees and turns off, but fan keeps running. Is that the way it is suppose to work? The ac works good and gets to temperature pretty fast.
I try to get this person to leave the settings alone, but she dosent listen. She wants it turned off when she goes to wk, because she says it cost to much money to run during the day. and she says it cost to much money to let the fan run on the ac.
fpl recommended that you set the ac on 78 degrees and leave it at that temp.Reason they say is because it cost more to start it back up than to just leave it as is. What say you? I really need some help with this, thanks.

Good diagnosis, the newer furnaces having LEDs on the control board can usually lead us to the fault, but not always the problem.
You may well be right that this was a freak occurrence, but if it continues to happen you may have a drafting problem. If it happens again you should call a qualified HVAC technician to determine the cause.

doing research online I found the unit has an LED that flashes fault codes. Mine flashed 5 times which translates to roll out switch open according to the table behind the panel. Using an ohm meter I found the open switch and reset the button on it. Good to go.
The heater was running yesterday morning and it was windy outside. I think the flame may have rolled out due to the wind going through the flue.
