Bad Evaporator Coil

We had our 24 year old Carrier central ac units replaced in August of 2009 because I convinced my wife that they were far past their life span and were living on "borrowed time."

The Goodman central ac units that replaced them came were sold to us as being really good, but after only 1 year we're having to replace the evaporator coil in one. Now I read all over the internet that Goodman has problems with bad coils.

I really wish now that we had gone with Carrier.

Why would you replace functioning systems just because you thought that they were working on "borrowed time"? My own Carrier systems lasted 49 years and were still functioning when I replaced them with Goodmans. I did that because certain parts were no longer available and major compressor and other rewiring were needed, leaks had developed, etc. The Goodman systems were very carefully installed and are functioning well.

I wish I had gone with Carrier also.
Goodman is a bad product. They are being sued because they knew about the evaporator coils were defective. The retailers also knew they were also. 2008 to present. Attorney in New York.

Been in my new house three years and already had to replace evap coils in both units. Goodman warrantied the parts, but no labor. I find out later that Goodman would have provided new coils on installation had we known to check for copper or alum coils. Evidently the copper can't withstand the higher operating pressures of 410 refrigerant. Thanks Goodman for the heads up!

we had to replace our Evaporator coil in our upstairs unit after 2 years, and after 3 years are downstairs has gone bad- the part is covered under warranty -but the labor and coolant will cost me 1,070 on top of what I paid last year.
