Any info on my central air conditioner model

by Mike
(Brogue, PA)

I just bought my home a few months ago and thought I should have the central ac checked before I started using it this summer.

The house has electric baseboard heat and central ac. The inside unit upstairs in the attic above the garage says its a York unit model MCB42-6A and it looks pretty old. The outside unit is a Goodman and is a 3.5 ton unit.

I did a search for the Goodman unit and found the info for that piece but I can't seem to find anything when I search for the York unit.

How old is this unit, what is its life expectancy and if I was were to replace it could I had heating as well as ac, and if so what would I need?

In a split-system central air conditioner, an outside metal dresser controls the condenser and compressor, and an inside cabinet contains the evaporator. A Bit More Detail at Aonepapers.com

Any info on my central ac model
by: Mike

I can believe that the system is from the 70's based on its appearance and size. I know it was working last year when I did my walk throughs before buying the home.

I guess I will try and have it serviced before turning it on this year and hope it lasts for another 2 years before replacing it with a new system that can do both heat and ac.

Hire Technician
by: Dadan

I'm guessing you had an inspection done on your home before you bought it. Just to be on the safe side.

You should hire someone to look at the entire central ac units. Older unit tends to last longer and better. But, there is always something.

Sorry, I couldn't help you with that.

York Borg Warner
by: Dadan

Hey, Mike

York Borg Warner is the old company name. I call York International Corporation and they don't seem to have the information for that serial number.

I ask a friend and he think this units was designed back in the 70's!

Any info on my central ac model

I just called the York number you provided. After taking all my contact info they transferred me to a local authorized York dealer.

The lady there said that their database covered 1984-2004 models so the model number and serial number I provided must be before 1984 and they couldn't tell me anything. I can't believe its this hard to find out info on a ac unit.

I just double checked and the data plate says York Borg Warner. Model # MCB42-6A, serial # FM018803 with a cooling coil MCC42 installed. This thing must be really old if you guys can not find any info on it.

To find the age of York units, I need the serial number.

I can't seem to find that model number in my database.
