Air conditioning units kicks on, but not blowing through the vents.

by Theresa
(independence, mo)

Turn A/c on thermostat with auto fan, A/C kicks on but there is no air blowing through vents, yet if Heat is turned on than there is air blowing through.

So the blower works just not when the A/C is on. It doesn't matter if it is on auto or just fan same thing happens, with heater ok with A/C not ok.

Generic motor NEW
by: Anonymous

Get a digital multimeter and find if there is volt going to motor and check for ampere draw. Bing on how to test a inducer draft motor.

You could use a generic brand that met the current motor: ex. Ampere, size, volt, hp, rotation … is on the label.

On some area, you don’t replace just the motor, you need to replace the entire inducer draft motor. Sorry for not being specific.

NO HEAT
by: Anonymous

heating is by a furnace unit. The control board LED flashes 6 times, indicating inducer draft motor fault. I was able to take it out, but didnt know how to bench test it. I wanted a replacement, but the local store here in nashville said they didnt have my brand (Carrier 48gs). My delima is whether other faults could be the problem either than the inducer motor, and how can i test to eliminate possible associated causes.

Is the house heating by a furnace unit or heat pump?

Unit cools but cannot heat.
by: Anonymous

Mine is the direct opposite. My cooling and heating were working ok untill three days ago. The thermostat cannot turn on the heat on Heat mode. But in Ac mode, it does. Also the fun runs.... just cannot heat. Lost for a solution. The unit is about 10 years old, but gets serviced regularly.

Its the blower.
by: Anonymous

I am betting youbuse gas for heat. Look heat rises faster because it is lighter. When you go to use you air conditioner in warmer months the cool air cannot rise by itself.

You need to clean out your blower!

Local Hvac Tech
by: Anonymous

From what I read, we’re positive sure the indoor fan is ok. The problem is not the indoor capacitor or the indoor fan.

It seems in cooling mode; the indoor fan is not getting the power it needs to rotate. It could be the thermostat or the fan relay. It be awesome if I could look at the air handler and think! It would be best to call a local Hvac tech.

same thing here
by: Anonymous

I have a similar problem, but in my case, the fan does kick on once in a while. It might run cycles flawlessly for a week straight, then suddenly not kick on.

From what I've read, it's the thermostat, or the fans run capacitor. I guess I'll schedule a repair man.

Same problem here!
by: Anonymous

I can usually get the inside fan going if I reset both breakers inside the "HVAC closet", even though they haven't been tripped. It's very strange. The same thermostat and fan work wonderfully all winter long when controlling the heating system.
