4-day-old central ac smells sweet, chalky - like new cement

Smell lingers between cycles. We thought it was a new equipment smell and would go away, but it's still there.

This is the latest, most up-to-date system Sears has to offer. Very quiet and lovely. It's just the smell that's bothersome.

Were you able to fix? NEW
by: Anonymous

Did you have any luck? I thought I was losing my mind...we have a similar odor coming from our a/c unit. We've done everything...cleaned all the coils, the evaporator, the water lines, replaced filters, installed UV lights, added chlorine cleaner...dissipated for a while but back full force. Not sure if replacing the unit would help or if it's caused by something else. If you have any tips please reach out ddernier@comcast.net.

Rheem Central air conditioner smell/odor NEW
by: Anonymous

South Florida - my new A/C Rheem unit that was installed on Tuesday March 18,2014 -They test the unit today 03/22/14 and immediately we felt this metal burning smell - and it make me very sick. I told the company manager that did the installation and he is NOT taking responsibility at all. I want them to take out immediately - b/c the smell is getting stronger by the minute. I only paid them half of the cost so far and I will takem them to court if they do not take the unit back and give me credit for the money I paid them already.
I feel that I need to go to the hospital I am sweeting and going to the bathroom every 15 minutes. I will provide the model number in my next comment. Please if you have a situation similar to mine DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY. IT CAN HARM YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
I am feeling very sick.
It seems to me that is not only Rheem, but there are many other brand names that have the same problems. Any sugetions, please help us out.
