Central Ac Unit Produce Loud Vibration

by peggy arado
(chesapeake, va)

Since day one in my new house, when the central air conditioner unit is running the wall in my living room vibrates and the sound coming from the wall is so deep and pulsating loud , it is ear piercing, you can't sit in my living room when it is on.

They have put a muffler and a vibration reduction thing on the outside unit which made the outside unit very quiet but the inside wall in my house is unbearable.

I have been told by the company who installed it, "some units are louder than others" Nothing we can do about it” This is a new house and new unit and I can't sit in my living room when the air is on. HELP!

noise

The problem does not sound like a unit problem.
If the unit is a package unit on the roof then it could be the installer did something improper or if it is a split system then it could be the freon lines running thru the wall going to the furnace and should be rerun. I dont think the unit is entirely to blame.

Noisy Air Conditioner
by: Anonymous

I don't know if this has been adressed, but the interconnecting lines between the condenser outside and evaporator coil inside, are mechanically connected to carry the refrigerant. Many installers connect these lines to the studs in your wall, creating a sounding board for the copressor into your home. Some insulators spray foam insulation in the walls, burying the lines in a rigid foam bed which enhances the noise even further. You could take any recent model condensing unit and connect it to those lines and you'll get the same result. The noise is coming from the lines. (I have experience with this). Unfortunately the solution will require you to enter the walls from the inside (cutting the sheetrock) and properly isolating the lines from your walls. Or you could run new lines on the outside of your house. The new compressors (Scroll type) run rougher than the older piston type, and make more viabrations. It was possible to get by away with connecting the lines to the walls with the older units and get by with it. I hope this helps.

Vibrations Evolutions system
by: Anonymous

I had my evolution system installed on 5/20/2010. I must say the furnace so far has been so quiet that we don't know when it is on. The central air conditioner is by far the nosiest I have ever heard. The vibration can be heard inside and outside; the ground around the outside unit actually shakes. My old (28 years old) unit made half the noise and had no vibration. Bryant has changed the unit and this second unit is just as nosier.

Bryant has sent two of their representatives at different times to look at it and so far nobody knows why this problem exists or how to fix it. My installer is besides himself for answered and has spent many hours coming back to try something else, yesterday (Sunday he came to put some other parts that the factory sent him after installing these parts the results are the same, vibrations. You can't go into our finished basement because the noise is so loud; this is where our Grand Children used to play.

I must say that everyone from Bryant has an honest desire to solve this problem, but they seem to be on a fishing trip to find the solution. Most of their comments however have been "We have never had a problem with this unit and have put thousands out without a vibration problem." Never is a powerful word, but doesn't fix the problem, especially when I have gotten units in that have the same problem???? Makes one wonder what is really going on.

I was also told that the first Unit that was sent back looked like it was dropped somewhere in transit either to my installer or from my installer. Again Two units dropped sent to the same customer then having the same problem, must be the power of coincidence ???????????? I am now waiting to see if anyone is coming today to do anything, we are going into our 8th week, and are no closer to the end.

My only consolation is that I haven't paid for this yet, I wanted to pay when the furnace was put in but my installer said to wait till the job was done which I am now doing, I feel bad for my installer because hasn't received a Dime. If anyone has any ideas E-Mail me at JGVisco@yahoo.com I was also told that they may step me up to the 180B unit, I now have the 187B. Well we'll see...

Is This Package Units?
by: Dadan

Some compressors are really quiet; however, the sound it produces hurt your eardrum.

Is this package unit?

If this is split units, there are two copper tubes that is connect to the indoor evaporator coils. Could that cause the vibration? (I find that hard to believe)

I don't see how a condenser could cause a vibration in your living room. Condenser unit are not even attach to the exterior wall.

Had the technician checks the indoor component (ex. blower)?

If the technician couldn't solves the problem. I doubt I could do it over the Internet.
