carrier central air conditioner question

by Janoui
(Bradenton FL)

I have a Carrier AC unit with model #38GS024330 SN PO72228 and need to know this unit's age. The poor baby is running all of the time and cannot seem to keep up.

The freon has been checked and recharged and all other checks seem to be clear from issues. I'm wondering if it's just time to break down and get a new one as I have no clue how old it is or when it was purchased. Thank you for your consideration.

Carrier Hvac Serial Number
by: Shawn - Webmaster

Carrier central air conditioner serial number: PO72228

The letter P supposed to be the Month, which is March. I?m not sure if the Carrier central ac designed in 1980 or 1990. After the month you have 6 digits number and the first number is the years.

Carrier serial number goes like this:

First Letter (A - L ) is Jan - Dec 1969 -1979 (skip Letter "I")

A - January
B - February

First Letter (M - Z) is (Jan - Dec) is design for the unit in 1980 - 1990.
